Sean KivlehanTo succeed in medicine, students first have to figure out how to balance the demands of medical school—lectures, labs, board exams and clinical rotations, while maintaining a healthy lifestyle and family and social life too. Toss in some volunteer work and starting a non-profit organization and it’s a full-fledged juggling act—one that Sean Kivlehan, Class of 2011 and Vedika Nehra, Class of 2010, have mastered.

M.D./M.P.H. student Sean Kivlehan knew his work as a paramedic saved people’s lives but he wanted to do more to make a global contribution. While earning his dual degree, he is helping to do both. His trip to help the earthquake victims in Haiti is evidence.  

Vedika NehraVedika Nehra, Class of 2010, wanted to give children in India the same opportunities she had since her family left her native country. Out of her ideas and ideals, the Nehra-Savent Foundation was born and a medical clinic and school library are underway in the small rural state of Haryana, India.
