La Casita De La Salud

La Casita De La Salud, or "little house of health" is the ultimate win-win situation: a physician-staffed clinic in East Harlem, where supervised first- and second-year medical students, hungry for hands-on experience, get the chance to treat the local community; and, where the local community, whose poverty, illiteracy, language and cultural barriers, and underinsurance increases their risk for chronic disease, such as asthma, diabetes, obesity, poor nutrition and hypertension, can get the primary care they need.
