The ORI monitors the investigation of allegations of scientific misconduct in universities and research institutions throughout the US. It also promulgates standards for the ethical conduct of research and promotes instruction in this area.

President’s Council on Bioethics
The Council ”advises the President on ethical issues related to advances in biomedical science and technology.” It deals with both medical care issues and scientific research issues, and produces informative reports and recommendations.
This institute is primarily concerned with medical care bioethics, but also considers matters related to patient-based research.
