Interdisciplinary Basic Medical Sciences
There are two tracks in the Interdisciplinary BMS Program
- Accelerated Track
- Traditional Track
Accelerated Track Program Description
The Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences offers an accelerated track in its interdisciplinary basic medical sciences program. Students in this track take selected pre-clinical medical school courses and are able to complete the requirements for a Master of Science degree in Basic Medical Sciences within one year.
Students entering the accelerated program intend to apply to medical school. Admission into the program is highly competitive, with openings for a maximum of only 25 students per year. The relatively small number of students will allow the faculty to work closely with the students and provide them with guidance concerning their applications to medical school. Students entering the program should understand that this is a graduate program and there is no guarantee of acceptance into the medical school of New York Medical College or into any other medical school. Nonetheless, students who do well in the program will be offered interviews at New York Medical College if the other elements of their applications are acceptable.
The minimum criteria for acceptance into the Accelerated Master’s Track are an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.00, including a GPA in science and math courses of 3.00, and an MCAT score of 27 with no section less than 7. These are minimum criteria for consideration but do not, by themselves, guarantee acceptance into the Accelerated Masters Track in Basic Medical Sciences. Applicants with an appropriate academic background will be invited to interview – either in person or by telephone – for possible acceptance into the accelerated program. The entire application and the interview will be considered in order to identify the strongest applicants.
Complete the application for entrance into the Basic Medical Sciences Accelerated Program, including submission of all supporting documentation. Select “Master of Science – Accelerated BMS” as your program of choice.
