One of three children brought up in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Candace studied dance from the age of four, performing with a professional dance troupe at Disney World for a summer and for two seasons as a member of the dance team for the NBA’s Washington Wizards. But she admits that science was always her calling—evidenced by the degree in microbiology she earned at Penn State University.
