Welcome! This web site is designed as a guide to some internet sites that provide useful educational resources and information relating to pharmacology. There are three sub-divisions to this site: The Education Resource Center, The Pharmacology News Center and an Introduction to Medical Pharmacology.

The Education Resource Center provides links to internet sites that maintain computer-based educational programs suitable for medical students taking pharmacology. You will find interactive pharmacology reviews, "virtual" labs, and a program for taking self-designed quizzes to assess your knowledge. The sites are located at Pharmacology Departments in well known Schools of Medicine, and provide novel study aids for pharmacology. Different units of the learning programs can generally be completed in less than 30-45 min. We hope you will find them rewarding as study aids, and efficient with your time.

To insure speedy and reliable interactions when using interactive educational programs, use a computer with an ethernet adapter, a direct network line, and an up-to-date internet browser. If your home PC only has a modem link to the NYMC intranet, consider using a PC in the Computer Laboratory in the Learning Center instead.

The Pharmacology News Center has a different function. Medical Pharmacology provides instruction on the basic principles of pharmacology and the characteristics of major therapeutics. Clinical rotations in the 3rd and 4th years provide instruction in the "clinical art" of using drugs. Such instruction, however, is only the beginning of a physician’s education in pharmacology. Your career demands continual study of new drugs being introduced and their scientific background. The Pharmacology News Center provides links to internet sites that rapidly report new developments in medical science and pharmacology of interest to physicians. Most of the links were designed for physicians, and provide a time-efficient medium for reviewing the latest news in pharmacology. We hope these links will demonstrate the variety and potential value of internet information resources, and facilitate efforts to stay up-to-date in your profession.

Introduction to MEDICAL PHARMACOLOGY provides information on the Medical Pharmacology Course. This includes course objectives, teaching formats and philosophies, student evaluation procedures, and recommendations for study. A hardcopy version of this site is included in the Course Syllabus handed out at the beginning of the course.

Finally, the Other Resources page is designed to provide additional information or novel internet links that students may request during the course, or that the pharmacology faculty think you might find of potential interest.
