THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF NEW YORK MEDICAL COLLEGE HAS ELECTED FOUR NEW MEMBERS: DIGBY W. BARRIOS, MINAS C. JOANNIDES, III, M.D., EDWARD V. LAHEY JR., AND CHRISTOPHER F.X. RIEGLER, M.D.
VALHALLA, N.Y., June 5, 2006 - Digby W. Barrios, of Ridgefield, Conn., is the former president and chief executive officer of Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation. After attending Loyola University in New Orleans and Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Medicine, Mr. Barrios began his career in sales at E.R. Squibb & Sons, eventually becoming vice president. He joined Boehringer Ingelheim in 1988 as chief operating officer and retired as president and chief executive officer in 1992. Mr. Barrios served on the board of directors and advisory boards of several pharmaceutical companies and organizations and is active with the Inner City Foundation for Education and the United Way.
Minas C. Joannides III, M.D., is vice president and chief medical director of the home office of New York Life Insurance Company in Manhattan. Prior to joining New York Life in 1996, he held positions at Metropolitan Life, rising to vice president and medical director in 1994. Dr. Joannides received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Board of Insurance Medicine and holds several insurance certifications. Dr. Joannides resides in Somers, N.Y.
Edward V. Lahey, Jr., J.D., of Southport, Conn., is currently general counsel of Essex Boat Works, Inc. in Essex, Conn. Prior to that he served as general counsel for PepsiCo, Inc. for 25 years. He received his juris doctor degree from Georgetown University and is a member of the American Law Institute, American Bar Association and Association of General Counsels. Mr. Lahey has been an adjunct professor at Pace Law School since 1998, and is a past president of the Corporate Bar Association of Westchester and Fairfield counties.
Christopher F.X. Riegler, M.D., is currently the Section Chief of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management in the Department of Anesthesiology at Lenox Hill Hospital. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College in 1988 and serves as president of the Board of Governors of the Alumni Association. Dr. Riegler is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and the New York Society of Anesthesiologists and he is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He resides in West Harrison, N.Y.
