Professional Interests:
Dr. Recchia is conducting research on the mechanisms that regulate the heart’s utilization of fat, glucose and lactic acid. Using in vivo models infused with metabolites that measure the rate of fuel oxidation by the heart, the team determines the effects of oxidized fuel—in the form of fats or carbohydrates—on cardiac performance in the presence of optimal or reduced amounts of nitric oxide. Their research will help in understanding the mechanisms leading to the progression of heart failure in patients.
