Early Decision Program
If you are considering an application to the New York Medical College through the Early Decision Program, keep in mind the following requirements:
- You must apply through AMCAS by August 1, 2007.
- You may only apply to this school while we are considering your Early Decision application.
- You must have taken the MCAT prior to July 31, of that year.
We will notify you of our decision no later than October 1.
Possible Decisions
Accept
This is a binding decision. You cannot apply to any other medical school that year nor attend any other medical school the following year.
Defer to the General Pool
You are still an active applicant to New York Medical College, but have been released from the restrictions of the Early Decision Program. You are free to apply to other schools and matriculate anywhere you are accepted.
Reject
You are no longer being considered as an active applicant to New York Medical College for that year. You are free to apply to other schools and matriculate anywhere you are accepted.
Previous Applicants
Applicants who have not been accepted into medical school one year may well be accepted at another time. We encourage applicants to try again. It will not be considered in a negative light unless you have taken no steps to improve you application.
Correct the Problem
It is very important that you give serious thought to the reasons you were not accepted the first time. If you present the same application again, even with an earlier application date, you will probably see the same result. Look carefully at your record. Ask your advisor for guidance. Determine the weak areas in your application -- and take the time to address the problem. It may take a year or two. Don't rush it.
Reapplication
Each year requires a new application.
-
Apply through AMCAS. Please refer to the AMCAS web site regarding reapplicant procedures.
-
Complete the on-line secondary application - it can change from one year to the next.
-
You must resubmit Letters of Evaluation. They can be the same letters you submitted previously. However, if you have taken appropriate steps to improve your application, then you may well have new letters to add to the file. In addition, your undergraduate letters, especially if they are from a committee, may be updated to reflect the changes you have made.
International Students
International students are welcome to apply. The academic prerequisites are the same as they are for all applicants, and are repeated below.
Financial considerations reflect the fact that if you are not a citizen of the United States and do not have Permanent Resident status, you will not be eligible to receive financial aid. This is federal law. Therefore, if you are not a citizen of the US and do not have permanent resident status, by July 1 of the year you are to enter, you must deposit an amount equal to four years' tuition and fees into a bank account to be held in escrow while you are a student here. For planning purposes, consider that amount to be approximately $170,000.
If you are a Permanent Resident, you are able to receive financial aid. You will need to send us a copy of your unconditional Green Card upon request.
