About the Chair

  Kate Franklin

Dr. Franklin is currently the Chair of the Depatment of Speech Language Pathology and Director of Clinical Education. As a long-time member of the NYMC and SHSP faculty, Dr. Franklin is an Associate Professor of Speech-Language Pathology. She completed her Ph.D. (and B.S., M.S.) in communication disorders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with an emphasis in augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) for individuals with complex communication disorders. She completed this work though a federal personnel preparation grant. Previously, as a research assistant professor in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at West Virginia University, she coordinated the department’s part-time master’s degree program and provided clinical supervision in the department’s clinic. She coordinated and provided clinical support to the Early Intervention Program at Keller Army Hospital, West Point, New York and has participated in AAC clinical training through the Westchester Institute for Human Development.

Dr. Franklin also has served as the primary investigator on several state funded contracts to support technology information/referral, technology loan program, and training through the New York State Office of Advocate for Persons with Disabilities. She chairs the SHSP Student Affairs Committee and is a site visitor for the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She maintains national certification and state licensure.
