Residency Program

The Neurology Residency at New York Medical College-Westchester Medical Center is a 4-year Program open to candidates. Effective July 1, 2014, the program was approved as a 4 year categorical program. Neurology programs that provide four years of residency education include a broad clinical experience in general internal medicine. 

Westchester Medical Center – Teaching Site
Westchester Medical Center (WMC) of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network located in Valhalla, NY is the primary teaching site for the program. 

WMC Facilities: Westchester Medical Center of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, together with the Maria Ferrari Children’s HospitalBehavioral Health Center (psychiatric care) and the Westchester Institute for Human Development (developmental disabilities) has over 1000 beds and ranks as the major tertiary care medical center in the region. Located in Westchester County (NY), WMC serves nearly 3.5 million population of the 7 county areas of lower Hudson valley, Northern NJ, and lower Connecticut. The modern WMC building houses an active 630 bed inpatient facility that provides intensive, emergency, acute and intermediate level care in all major medical and surgical sub-specialties. The Emergency Department is very active and critically ill patients are flown in by WMC helicopter services. There are 6 medical-surgical ICUs (4 adult, 1 pediatric and 1 neonatal) and a complete network of clinical laboratory services. The Neuroscience ICU is located on the 3rd floor of the Hospital.

Clinical Laboratory Facilities

The Clinical Laboratory facilities at WMC provide the full range of diagnostic tests. The test results are readily available to the Residents through computer terminals located in inpatient wards, Residents Rooms in the Hospital. Digital EEG data is networked to the physicians' offices from the Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory, the Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMU) and the Operating Room. Similar system is available for accessing radiology studies.

The Department of Neurology located in the 19 Skyline Drive Building, Room IS-D52, Valhalla, New York 10595. 

The Department has an active inpatient and consultation service and is supported by Medicine, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Neuropathology and other Clinical Laboratory services. There is a Neuroscience ICU and Stroke step-down Unit. The Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory is well equipped to provide a complete array of diagnostic tests including EEG, Evoked potentials, and EMG. The 4 bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (2 adult and 2 pediatric) provides long term intensive seizure monitoring and presurgical evaluations for epilepsy surgery. Outpatient care is provided in the WMC campus as well as in the adjacent modern Bradhurst Avenue Office Building complex. The Medical Records department provides ready access to patient charts for clinical and research purposes. The Basic Sciences building houses the basic science departments, the Health Services Library and the Campus Store for textbooks and other needs. All these facilities are easily accessible to the Residents and the Faculty.
