Westchester Medical Center is a Level I trauma center. At Westchester Medical Center, three helicopters bring patients from a roughly 100-mile radius serving 3.5 million people with greater than 1,500 trauma admissions yearly.
Major multiple trauma is routinely managed in a comprehensive fashion. Sophisticated intracranial monitoring techniques, including the insertion of Lycox catheters and microdialysis catheters, are routinely performed, and patient management is discussed at regular trauma conferences.
Patients with head trauma are entered into a trauma data base for outcome analysis. Our hospital manages complex neural trauma including brain, spine, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.
All neurosurgeons participate in trauma call.
