MEDICAL
STUDENT ELECTIVE
IN CLINICAL PATHOLOGY / LABORATORY MEDICINE
This elective pathology course, is offered twice each academic year in the last two weeks of November and March. It has been designed and is conducted by Iradge Argani, M.D., Professor of Clinical Pathology Dr. Argani is well-known to most fourth-year medical students at New York Medical College from his highly-acclaimed contributions to the second-year Pathology/Pathophysiology teaching program.
This course has been designed to familiarize senior medical students with the application of clinical laboratory sciences and methodologies to the diagnosis of diseases. It places major emphasis on interpretive and diagnostic aspects of laboratory medicine, while laboratory methods and procedures are reviewed in the context of their relevance to the interpretation of obtained results.
Specific topics scheduled for review include coagulation, hematology, immunohematology, clinical chemistry, medical microbiology, and clinical microscopy. In this elective, students are encouraged to work up and solve specific diagnostic problems.
