LOCATION:

Metropolitan Hospital is located on the upper east side of Metropolitan Hospital is located on the upper east side of Manhattan, between 1st and 2nd Avenues and 97th - 99th Streets.

Westchester Medical Center is located on the Grasslands Reservation off the Sprain Brook Parkway in Valhalla, New York. New York Medical College, School of Medicine, is located adjacent to Westchester Medical Center on the Valhalla campus.


FACILITIES:

Metropolitan Hospital is a 330 bed acute care facility. Metropolitan Hospital maintains "University Hospital" status within New York Medical College. The New York Medical College - Metropolitan Hospital affiliation is one of the oldest in the nation. The Hospital has a dedicated staff of over 3,000 professional and skilled workers committed to serving the community. In addition to comprehensive inpatient services, MHC serves as the "family doctor" for more than 320,000 outpatient and emergency room patients annually. The Department of Dental Medicine, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, is located on the 2nd Floor of the Hospital, in the Ambulatory Care area. It is comprised of departmental offices, 10 state of the art operatories, a surgicenter suite with recovery room, a reception area, a conference room, laboratory, intraoral and extraoral digital radiography and processing room. In addition, an online computer network capable of accessing medical/dental information from various sources, such as the Library of Medicine, is within the Department.

Westchester Medical Center is a 500 bed acute tertiary care Level I trauma center. The Hospital has a dedicated staff of professional and skilled workers committed to serving 7 counties comprising the Hudson Valley region and New Jersey. In addition to comprehensive inpatient services, WMC provides outpatient and emergency room services. In addition, the hospital offers major patient services in the area of transplant and cardiovascular surgery. The Department of Dental Medicine is located on the 1st floor of the Hospital, in the Ambulatory Care area of the Macy Pavilion. It is comprised of departmental offices, 5 state of the art operatories with fiberoptic capabilities, a surgicenter suite, a reception area, a conference room, laboratory, intraoral and extraoral radiography and dark room. In addition to these hospital dental services, Dental Medicine provides outpatient dental services to patients with developmental disabilities at the Westchester Institute of Human Development and the Ruth Taylor Long Term Care Facility on campus.


PROGRAM:

The four year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program is sponsored by New York Medical College. The program accepts two candidates each academic year. A Certificate is presented to those candidates who successfully complete the program. In addition, the program offers an M.D. Option at New York Medical College to those qualified residents who successfully complete the OMS program. The program is designed to provide clinical, didactic, and hospital experience at the postdoctoral level in OMS. The residents will utilize two clinical training sites of New York Medical College for their clinical activity. These include Metropolitan Hospital Center and Westchester Medical Center. The program gives the resident the knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to qualify for certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In addition to training in all phases of minor and major oral and maxillofacial surgery, the residents rotate through the Departments of Anesthesiology, Medicine, and Surgery.

The Standards for Advanced Specialty Education Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the American Dental Association are the underlying basis for the OMS program with the expectation of graduates becoming Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
