The housestaff play a major role in the management of patients followed by the Infectious Diseases Service, participating in the daily rounds under the supervision of an attending physician. The Infectious Diseases service serves as consultants throughout the inpatient and outpatient areas of the medical center and are the primary providers of care for patients enrolled in the AIDS Care Center. During the month spent on the Infectious Disease service, houseofficers answer consultations and participate in active ambulatory clinics. These include a general Infectious Disease Clinic, an International Travelers Clinic and a Lyme Disease Center. Major areas of research in this Division include the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis and new anti-microbial agents and vaccines.
