WESTCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER

Westchester Medical Center is a 641-bed tertiary care hospital. It serves patients from the seven-county Hudson Valley region. This region has a population of nearly 2 million people living in rural, suburban, and urban areas. It is the only Level I Trauma Center located between New York City and Albany and is the only ACS certified trauma center in New York. There are two transport helicopters and fully trained transport team personnel. Westchester Medical Center has a busy Emergency Room. A new Children’s Hospital and trauma center opened in 2004.

Westchester Medical Center has a dedicated neurosurgical patient care unit, including a neurosurgical intensive care unit with eight monitored beds. The Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital has an active pediatric neurosurgical service with a pediatric intensive care unit, a regional neonatal ICU, a four-bed epilepsy monitoring unit, and trauma and pediatric neurosurgery operating rooms. Neuroscience is a designated Center of Excellence at Westchester Medical Center.

SAINT VINCENT’S HOSPITAL MANHATTAN

Saint Vincent’s Hospital Manhattan is a 737-bed voluntary private hospital on the West Side of downtown Manhattan. It serves as a primary care hospital for this area and as a tertiary care center for Brooklyn, Staten Island, and New Jersey. It is a Level I Trauma Center and is a state-designated AIDS Care Center.

The hospital has a designated neurosurgical floor with 19 private and semiprivate beds, including a four-bed dedicated Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit and a dedicated OR. There is also a dedicated endovascular neurosurgery suite. The hospital is attached to a Comprehensive Cancer Center for the management of patients with malignant tumors of the nervous system. Stereotactic radiosurgery is performed at the Cancer Care Center.

NEW YORK MEDICAL COLLEGE

Founded in 1860, New York Medical College, a health sciences university, comprises a School of Medicine, a Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences, and a School of Public Health. The university’s main campus is located in Valhalla, New York. The university has 770 medical students and 700 full- and part-time graduate students taught by a faculty of nearly 2,800 with 1,300 full-time members. An extensive network of 20 affiliated hospitals includes large urban medical centers, small suburban hospitals, and technologically advanced regional tertiary care facilities. New York Medical College has more than 1,300 residents in 103 sponsored residency programs.
