The Department of Ophthalmology offers an integrated ophthalmology residency training for a total of nine residents at two major institutions:  Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla and Metropolitan Hospital Center in Manhattan.  These facilities have the latest ophthalmologic equipment including Argon, YAG, Krypton lasers, transscleral YAG photocoagulation, automated perimetry, phacoemulsification, Digital A & B scan ultrasonography, electrophysiology, specular microscopy, video OR facilities, epikeratophakia, endophotocoagulation, intravenous fluorescein and Optical Coherence Tomography.  The institutions have full time directors and associate professors working closely with the residents.  There are no fellows in the ophthalmology department at NYMC.  All surgery is done by the residents and all teaching is done by the staff attendings.
