What is Rehabilitation Medicine?

Rehabilitation Medicine or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is the medical specialty concerned with the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with impairments and/or disabilities involving the musculoskeletal, neurologic, cardiovascular or other systems. The physiatrist aims to achieve the maximal restoration of function including physical, psychological, social and vocational function. The alleviation of pain and the management of pain is also a primary concern of the physiatrist.
