Residents and Faculty attend topic-themed weekly conferences each Wednesday morning. Conferences include board-style review questions, lectures presented by faculty, residents, and guest lecturers, video lectures, journal club and EKG review, as well as morbidity and mortality review, quality assurance participation. Residents also attend state-wide conferences run by NY ACEP, and occasional specialty conferences hosted by specific NYC hospitals, in areas of trauma, ultrasound and critical care. At least once a month, residents practice both clinical and procedural skills in the Emergency Department’s Simulation Lab. Throughout the year, residents also participate in oral board review sessions, with immediate feedback from faculty. Simulation Program Introduced in 2007, the Simulation Curriculum has been incorporated into our EM Wednesday Educational Conference. The focus is on Adult and Pediatric Simulation. Major medical, trauma and pediatric resuscitations are taught in a dynamic learning environment. The following procedures are performed by residents in Simulation Lab:
Research is encouraged, with each resident assuming an assigned project. Those with potential publications learn the process of completing IRB documentation and research writing. Each resident MUST complete either a research or performance improvement project prior to graduation.
