College 144th Commencement took place on Thursday, May 22, 2003 at
Carnegie Hall. Diplomas were awarded to graduates from the School
of Medicine, School of Public Health and Graduate School of Basic
Medical Sciences.

Life Sciences: from Early
Stage to Venture Capital
On
Tuesday, April 15,
2003 the Westchester Venture Group held its annual series
exploring partnerships
within the Biotech Industry.
Entrepreneurs and
College faculty were afforded networking time to present funding concepts to venture
capitalists from various well known firms. Tours of the New York Medical College research facilities, comparative medicine facility, and medical sciences library
were conducted.

Match Day 2003
March 20, 2003 - At
noon today, almost 24,000 applicants in the National Resident
Matching Program (NRMP) learned which residency program they will
enter for training. A record high number of residency positions
were offered in the 2003 Match; this was accompanied by an all
time high in the number of applicants matched to residency
positions. Data from each year's residency match serves as an
indicator of career interests among medical school graduates.
NYMC Class of 2003 secured prestigious positions across the
nation. |

2002
Dean's Distinguished Research Award On
January 21, 2003, Michael S. Wolin, Ph.D., Professor of Physiology
was Dean’s Distinguished
Research Award in the Medical Education Center Auditorium. Dr.
Wolin is recognized as a leader in the study of the circulatory
system. He has demonstrated that oxidative stress plays a major
role in the modulation of tissue and vascular reactivity.

9th Annual
NYMC Author's Recognition Sherry
The Annual
Author's Sherry was held on January 14, 2003 in recognition of the
release of the New York Medical College Faculty Authors
Bibliography, July 2001-June 2002. The bibliography is the
ninth annual compilation of faculty scholarship that has been
published during the past academic year. A celebration
hosted by the Provost's Office and the Medical Sciences Library
was held to honor the authors of the past academic year. |

President's
Holiday Party Held
in the Basic Science Building on December 18, 2002, the
President's Holiday Party was an opportunity for the College
community to gather together to reflect on the successes of the
past year and to wish each other peace and happiness in the
coming year. Happy
holidays to all from the administration, faculty, staff and
students of New York Medical College. |

Tree Lighting Ceremony The
College Community gathered on December 4, 2002 to sing carols
around the 60 ft. spruce found in front of Sunshine Cottage.
Children of staff, faculty and students joined Rev. Msgr. Harry
C. Barrett, D.Min., M.P.H., President and CEO throw the switch
lighting the tree. Season's Greetings to all! |

Race for Rehab 2002
This year's event
took place on November 17, 2002 and was attended by close to two
hundred participants of all ages and abilities. The proceeds will
benefit the Achilles Track Club, a world-wide track organization
that encourages people with physical challenges of all levels to
participate in running and exercising with the general public
regardless of speed, level of ability or age. The remainder of
the proceeds will benefit New York Medical College in conjunction
with the Westchester Medical Center.

The Founder's
Dinner 2002
College friends and benefactors gathered to recognize New York
Medical College's contribution to medical education and research.
The event, which took place place at the Rye Town Hilton on October
3, 2002 was also an occasion to honor three longtime
supporters of the university. Gerald W. Cunningham received
the William Cullen Bryant Award to recognize distinguished
leadership; Alvin I. Goodman, M.D., was the recipient of the
Distinguished Service Award and the Westchester- Putnam chapter of
the American Heart Association received the 2002 Jackson E. Spears
Community Service Award. |

Convocation 2002
The College community celebration marking the beginning of a new
academic year took place on October 4, 2002. During the
ceremony and in the presence of their parents, first year medical
students received their white coats while listening to a
recitation of the Hippocratic Oath. Faculty who received
promotions and administrative appointments during the past
academic year were also recognized. |

Recognition Day 2002 A
College community celebration honoring the accomplishments and achievements
of more than 200 employees and recent retirees whose dedication and hard
work have helped make NYMC the institution it is today. |

2002 The Medical School
Class of 2006 recently arrived on campus.
Pictures of their traditional New York City trip, along with other images of
orientation are just some of the annual campus happenings.

"Save A Seat"
Campaign
On Tuesday, May 17th,
faculty and staff donors who participated in the "Save A Seat"
campaign were honored for their efforts. The money raised by
this initiative is being used to purchase seating in the MEC
Auditorium, Medical Sciences Library, Cafeteria and Cooke
Auditorium. Thank you to all who participated. |

"New Insights
into Cardiovascular Disease"
On May 1st, the
College hosted a scientific conference in honor of Gabor Kaley,
Professor and Chairman of the Department of Physiology. Those in
attendance heard from experts in the field of cardiovascular
research. The keynote speaker for the day was Dr. Louis J.
Ignarro, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine (1998) who
lectured on his discovery concerning nitric oxide as a signalling
molecule in the cardiovascular system. |

Bioterrorism
Conference
On November 30, 2001, the College hosted a gathering of national
experts on the subject of Bioterrorism. The conference was funded
in part by the generosity of The National Memorial Institute for
the Prevention of Terrorism in cooperation with the New York
Medical College Graduate School of Health Sciences. |
