Dr. Hennrick is interested in the application of molecular pathology testing for further classifications of neoplastic disease and identification of targeted therapeutic approaches to cancer. Two projects are of current interest to potential STAR students. In the first project I am describing and classifying individual tumor nodules in prostatectomy specimens and relating these to next generations sequencing data from lymph node metastasis or long term metastatic foci of disease. A second project seeks to compare PD-1 and PDL-1 immunohistochemistry quantitative scores to multi parameter gene expression tests (i.e. Oncotype) and also compare this expression to clinical outcomes data. Both of these research projects are ideal for medical students contemplating a future career in pathology, surgery (urology or breast surgery), and/or hematology-oncology.
