Overview

This initiative builds upon the partnership and established working relationships between the New York Medical College Family and Community Medicine Residency Program at St. Joseph’s Medical Center and the Yonkers Spectrum School Health Program. This grant is designed to expand this collaboration to provide medical students and residents with new training experiences. The goal is to increase medical students and resident understanding of the challenges and opportunities of using school-based health centers to serve children in underserved areas. We want them to understand and appreciate the vital community structures and influences that exist and prosper among less than ideal living conditions. We want our learners to understand that schools in poor neighborhoods do not mean poor schools.
