Wendy S. A. Edwards, M.D.
Clinical Director of Palliative Care and member of Department of Internal Medicine
SVCMC-St. Vincent's Manhattan

In addition to her regular practice in Palliative Care, Dr. Edwards is a member of the St. Vincent's Manhattan Healthcare Ethics Committee and has an appointment in the Ethics Department at St. Vincent's Manhattan. Until April of 2003, she was a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, a Faculty Scholar in the Center for Bioethics and Humanities and a Senior Ethics Consultant at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. Dr. Edwards was Director of the Palliative Care Consultation Service and the Chairman of the Ethics Committee at University Hospital, Syracuse. A graduate of Wellesley College and the Medical College of Pennsylvania, she is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Dr. Edwards has a strong interest in improving the quality of care of patients at the end of life, and has developed courses in palliative care and medical ethics for medical students, residents and nurses. Her research efforts center on developing a better understanding of patients' desires about treatment at the end of their lives and she is committed to improving physician-patient communication. Over the past several years she has instituted required courses in Bioethics for the residents in her Internal Medicine department, and runs lectures and seminars in many medical departments about the moral dilemmas facing physicians and patients in our modern health care system.
