STATEMENT OF ACADEMIC FREEDOM

Cognizant of its responsibility as an institution of higher learning, the university encourages its faculty and students to pursue the search for knowledge in academic freedom. A commitment to academic freedom that preserves the rights of individuals and recognizes the university’s public trust and Catholic vision is a core value of New York Medical College. As stated in the Strategic Plan, 1996, the university strives to create an atmosphere in which knowledge is valued both for itself and for how it will improve the lives of people. Those who conduct research or who teach may, in their search for truth within their specific disciplines, reach whatever conclusions are presented by evidence and analysis. The academic community is encouraged to teach and to publish the results of scholarly research. The individual’s rights, the public trust and the Catholic vision of the university are held in mutual respect.
