New York Medical College observed World Hypertension Day on May 17, with free blood pressure screenings, sponsored by Digitouch Health LLC, a client of BioInc@NYMC. Marc Zemel, left, chief executive officer and co-founder of Digitouch Health, explained they are developing advanced algorithms and sensors for monitoring blood pressure, including a sensor to monitor blood pressure by pressing a button on a mobile device. Nearly 80 participants were screened with the assistance of volunteers, Jermoh Kamara, an M.P.H. student and first-year medical students Bertie Zhang and Reba Gillis. World Hypertension Day was initiated in 2005 to increase the awareness of hypertension.
