Responsibilities and Services
The Office of Research Administration at New York Medical College is responsible for the administration of all research and sponsored academic programs at NYMC. The Office assists faculty and staff with a variety of services.
Pre-Award Services:
- Provides consultation about all aspects of proposal preparation, from assistance in locating funding sources to preparing a budget and, time permitting, editing proposal text.
- Offers computerized searches of funding sources using InfoEd's Sponsored Program Information Network (SPIN), the world wide web and other sources of electronic information.
- As the authorized institutional office, endorses and provides the institutional signature for all grants and contracts that are approved for submission.
- Coordinates the Intramural Sponsored Research Program and the annual Dean's Research Award program.
- Serves as a source of medical research advocacy by obtaining and responding to governmental policies affecting medical research funding.
- Receives and disseminates electronic mail from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Association of American Medical Colleges and other agencies.
Post-Award Services:
- Reviews, negotiates and accepts all grant and contract awards on behalf of the College.
- Authorizes initiation of all research projects and sponsored academic programs on behalf of the College.
- Informs principal investigators and Grants Accounting of the terms and conditions of awards.
- Serves as the institutional prior approval authority, approving budget deviations or requesting required funding agency approval.
- Coordinates submission of final reports.
- Assists, facilitates and manages technology transfer, patent procurement and licensing of novel technology for faculty members.
Compliance Issues:
The Office of Research Administration is authorized to provide certification of institutional compliance with agency policies.
The Office of Research Administration:
- Coordinates activities of the Institutional Review Boards to ensure institutional compliance with regulations regarding the use of human subjects in research activities.
- Participates in the activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee to ensure institutional compliance with regulations regarding the care and use of laboratory animals.
- Assures regulatory committee approval for the utilization of hazardous materials.
- Administers federal regulations and policies and procedures regarding Conflict of Financial Interest.
- Is responsible for the development of policies and procedures responsive to federal regulations and emerging issues.
