This page describes an experiment in which a pyramidal neuron (A) from the CA1 region
of the Hippocampus was synaptically activated with a 1 sec long 100Hz train.
The stimulation caused a localized Ca2+ release , in a location close to the stimulating
electrode followed by a release-wave  through part of the dendritic tree.
The activity image (B) shows the relative change in fluorescence (DF/F) at the end of the
electric stimulation.

Panel (C) shows the electric potential develloped during the stimulation as measured by
the intracellular electrode. Panel (D) shows the time dependence of the optical signal at 3 different
locations (color matched to boxes on (A)). The optical signals are normalized to each other in
order to emphasize the mode in which the Ca2+  wave spreads through the dendritic
arborization.
