Doctor of Public Health (Dr.P.H.) Admission Requirements

Individuals eligible to apply will have earned a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) or a master’s degree in a related health field, and have attained a graduate GPA at the master’s level of at least 3.5. Accepted applicants who do not have an M.P.H. in the appropriate area prior to beginning the Dr.P.H., may need to complete some coursework required for the M.P.H. in Health Policy and Management.

Furthermore, applicants must submit:

  • APPLICATION and PREREQUISITE WORKSHEET: a completed application and public health prerequisite worksheet through a centralized public health application system, SOPHAS. 
    • Required Core Prerequisites Courses:
      • Health Policy and Management
      • Health Economics
      • Environmental Health
      • Behavioral Health
      • Statistical Approaches for Research
      • Principles and Practices of Epidemiology
  • GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION (GRE):  Not required
  • RECOMMENDATIONS: Three recommendations are required, with at least two from graduate faculty members (if applicable). 
  • PERSONAL STATEMENT indicating why you wish to pursue a doctoral degree. The personal statement should be a maximum of 500 words.
  • RESUME
  • PROOF OF IMMUNIZATION (not part of the application process).

Application Review
Applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee as soon as the applicant is complete and verified by SOPHAS.  Applicants who appear to fulfill the criteria may be invited to campus for an orientation to the program and a formal interview. Acceptances are issued on a rolling basis for a fall start. Accepted students must submit a $500 deposit to guarantee their place in the class.  It is expected that accepted students be competent in using a software office suite including word, spreadsheet, and presentation program.
