Events

There is always something going on at NYMC. Whether sponsored by the College, one of its schools or by a student or community organization, NYMC students can easily fill their free time with educational, recreational, athletic and social activities.

SHSP Research Day

Graduate and medical students and faculty presented their innovative health projects and scholarly activities in five topic areas: discovery, teaching, integration, engagement, and application of research/theory to professional service and practice, at the Third Annual School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) Research and Scholarship Day. Projects included recently developed health, environmental, and policy programs from public health disciplines, novel clinical applications in speech-language pathology and physical therapy, and other projects that contribute to scholarship at NYMC. A networking opportunity among students and faculty celebrated NYMC’s commitment to scientific discovery and appreciation to College and community collaborators.

Nine faculty members from the SHSP judge posters in five categories. Authors self-categorized their abstract submissions into the categories outlined by the Boyer Model of Scholarship:

  • Discovery – work adding to the development or creation of new knowledge
  • Application/Practice – work that distributes developed knowledge to solve real problems in professions, industries, government, the community, and other social realms
  • Integration – work adding to the critical analysis and review of knowledge
  • Teaching – work adding to the development of critically reflective knowledge about teaching and learning
  • Engagement – work adding to the identification, understanding, and resolution of significant social, civic, or ethical problems

Race for Rehab

The Race for Rehab is an annual New York Medical College sponsored community service event that is organized by the Physical Therapy students. Proceeds from the race benefit Achilles International, a not-for-profit organization which provides a community of support to athletes with disabilities, using sports as a tool to offer hope, inspiration and the joy of achievement.
