M.D./M.P.H. Program

Students accepted into the School of Medicine at New York Medical College may apply for admission to the M.P.H. program, thereby providing an opportunity to pursue both degree programs simultaneously. M.D./M.P.H. students earn 46 credits (15 courses plus a Applied Practice Experience in public health). There are several pathways through which to pursue the 5-year M.D./M.P.H. degree including accelerated program options. Newly accepted medical students interested in the M.D./M.P.H. must contact the Associate Dean for Students Affairs of the School of Medicine to start the process and get approval.

Combining the two degrees, medicine and public health:

  • Fosters a better appreciation of the effects of the interplay between community factors and individual behaviors on the health status of patients;
  • Creates a better understanding of the basis of treatment and treatment outcomes for individual patients;
  • Promotes an understanding of the delivery of health services, including the economic and legal aspects.

Please contact Pamela Suett in the Admissions Office at (914) 594-4510 or shsp_admissions@nymc.edu if you have any questions.
