Mission Statement

Purpose

The Office of Continuing Medical Education of New York Medical College is dedicated to identifying the educational needs of our physicians, other health-care professionals, and educators, in order to improve their skills and knowledge to narrow their professional practice gaps to assist them in continuing to provide superior medical care to their patients.

Content Areas

The areas covered by New York Medical College's continuing medical education programs include topics relating to the improvement of learners’ clinical skills and knowledge as it relates to medical advances, specialty guidelines for all disciplines, quality assurance issues, and topics related to current methods of training of physicians, healthcare providers, and medical educators.

Target Audience

The continuing medical education activities provided by New York Medical College target physicians who are full or part-time faculty based at New York Medical College or its affiliated hospitals, New York Medical College alumni, and non-faculty physicians located in the mid-Hudson Valley, New York metropolitan area, and throughout the United States. Non-physician participants may include nurses and other allied health professionals.

Types of Activities Provided

Through both direct and joint providership, the CME office offers serial conferences, including grand rounds, case conferences, tumor boards, morbidity and mortality conferences; live conferences and symposia; faculty development courses; appropriate graduate school courses; and enduring materials, including journal CME, video courses, and computer-based educational courses.

Expected Results of the Program

The programs provided by the CME office are designed to teach advances in medical information, practice, and technology and to address quality assurance issues in order to assist physicians and other health care professionals improve their competence and performance in practice. The office utilizes a multi-faceted approach to measure the program's success in meeting its mission. These methods include assessing changes in competence and performance through follow-up evaluation of activity participants, surveying college faculty to ascertain if needs are being met, and, if applicable, reviewing local public health data to measure improvements in the health status of the patients we serve. The Office of CME will also conduct an Outcomes Survey three to six months after an activity has concluded.
