TITLE: Effect of Classroom-Based Movement Programs on
Parent/Student/Teacher Satisfaction of Children with Chronic
Disability

DESCRIPTION:
Jessica Magro and Thomas Willson are alumni of the
Program in Physical Therapy at New York Medical College. They are
Senior Physical Therapists in the New York City Department of
Education’s Special Education District 75. One particular
interest of theirs has been the design and implementation of group
and classroom based movement/fitness.
Several new programs
have been implemented in the New York City schools to encourage
health, fitness and activity among students. The goals of these
programs have been to promote exercise among students with
disabilities (both physical and cognitive), promote knowledge of
the importance of increased activity, increase attention within
the classroom setting and improve academic performance.
This project will
examine the effect of a classroom based movement program on parent,
student and teacher satisfaction. Students will work with Thomas
Willson and Jessica Magro on study design, data collection and
analysis. Data collection will occur September through November.
SPECIAL
CONSIDERATIONS:
This will require
transportation to the Bronx, NY. All researchers visiting schools
will need to have their fingerprints on file at the Department of
Education prior to the start of field work. This rule includes all
research in schools conducted with students and/or staff.
Researchers should be aware that the cost is $115.00.
