D.P.T. students host most successful Race for Rehab to
date
The 8th annual Race for Rehab
hosted by students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program in
the School of Public Health was an unqualified success, despite
drenching rains on race day, October 1. One hundred and twenty
participants, including 25 Achilles Track Club (ATC) athletes,
braved the wet weather to participate in the race, which raised
$6,000 for the ATC, a world-wide organization that encourages
people with physical challenges to participate in running events,
regardless of speed, level of ability or age. It was the most
money raised for ATC since the Race for Rehab began,
bringing the total amount donated to $31,000.
The race was
organized by second-year D.P.T. students, led by Cassandra
Catalano and Meghan Slemenda, with the support of Anthony M. Sozzo,
M.A., M.S.Ed., associate dean for student affairs and director of
student activities and student financial planning, and faculty
advisor Janet Dolot, PT., D.P.T., assistant professor of practice
and director of clinical education in physical therapy. The race
included a certified 5K route, and for the first time, a certified
10K route. Local Girl Scout Troop 1151 from Pleasantville, N.Y.,
also helped out by lending a hand at the food and beverage table.
Many local citizens and vendors contributed to the event's success
with generous donations.
