About Student Physician Awareness Day (SPAD)

Thursday, April 24, 2008

The students of New York Medical College are pleased to announce the twenty-third annual Student Physician Awareness Day (SPAD) to take place on April 24, 2008 at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown, New York.

SPAD was created twenty-three years ago as a forum to address important issues in medicine that are not covered in the medical curriculum. The day-long conference is entirely organized by the students of the first year class. This year, we have chosen to create a symposium to discuss alternative approaches to medicine and their use with conventional medicine. We hope students will appreciate the wider realm of medicine outside of allopathic care, learn of the historical aspects of medicine and different treatment plans, and realize the possibilities of incorporating alternative and modern medicine in daily practice.

We, as healthcare providers, will face many challenges in our careers in medicine and the aim of SPAD is to help prepare us for those challenges. Our well-qualified keynote speakers are Leonard A. Wisneski, MD, FACP, Clinical Professor of Medicine at George Washington Medical Center, and Dean and President of the University of Sint Eustatius School of Medicine, and Neil D. Theise, MD, Professor of Pathology and Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In addition, SPAD will complement its main agenda with breakout workshops led by experts in related fields, a residency panel to discuss career opportunities, and a formal luncheon.

SPAD will offer an exciting opportunity for discussion and interaction among students, faculty, administrators, clinicians and the community, while enhancing the medical school curriculum. We invite you to join us in what will surely be an illuminating experience.

Registration for the conference will be open until April 16th, 2008.
