Three NYMC Faculty Members Named "Doctors of Distinction"

Valhalla, N.Y., October 21, 2013 — The Westchester Medical Society, along with accounting and consulting firm Citrin Cooperman and the Westchester County Business Journal, will host the inaugural “Doctors of Distinction” awards to recognize seven members of the medical profession in Westchester County. Three New York Medical College faculty members will be honored at a ceremony to be held at the Bristal in White Plains, N.Y., on October 24.

Robert W. Amler, M.D., dean of the School of Health Sciences and Practice and vice president for government affairs, will receive the medical entrepreneur award, which recognizes a physician whose ingenuity and “outside-the-traditional box” thinking and actions have significantly contributed to the advancement of medical practice.

Lawrence Faltz, M.D., clinical professor of medicine and senior vice president for medical affairs and chief medical officer at College affiliate Phelps Memorial Hospital, will be recognized with a leadership in medical advocacy award. The category recognizes physicians who have displayed exceptional leadership as advocates on behalf of the medical profession at the local, state or national level, or who have provided significant amounts of volunteer time to help fellow physicians.

Robert Raniolo M.D., clinical assistant professor of surgery, will be honored with a community service award, which recognizes outstanding service by a physician to his or her community in providing free medical and patient care services for people in need – the underserved, homeless, uninsured or indigent.
