Chirag D. Gandhi, M.D., FACS, FAANS is a prominent neurosurgical leader and an expert in both open and minimally invasive neurovascular surgery.
Dr. Gandhi obtained his B.S. in Bioengineering from Columbia University, an M.S in Genetics from Boston University, and his M.D. from Rutgers- NJ Medical School. He went on to complete his neurosurgery residency under Dr. Kalmon Post at Mount Sinai Medical Center, NY during which he also did an in-folded fellowship in Diagnostic Neuroradiology. He stayed at Mount Sinai completing a fellowship in Endovascular Neurosurgery with Dr. Aman Patel. At the completion of his training Dr. Gandhi joined the Department of Neurosurgery at Rutgers University- NJ Medical School in Newark, NJ under the leadership of Dr. Peter Carmel, where he focused on developing an academic practice in Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery. Over the next decade, he served in many clinical, educational, and administrative roles eventually rising to the level of Program Director of both the Neurosurgery Residency and Endovascular Neurosurgery Fellowship, Chief of Neurovascular Surgery, and Interim-Chair of the department.
In 2017, Dr. Gandhi joined Westchester Medical Center at NY Medical College in Valhalla, NY as the Chief of Neurovascular Surgery and Program Director of the residency and fellowship programs. In 2019 has was promoted to the Director of Neurosurgery for the Westchester Medical Center Health Network and in 2020 was appointed Professor and Chairman of the department. Dr. Gandhi’s main clinical and research focus is in care of patients with cerebrovascular disorders, with a particular interest in cerebral aneurysms, AVMs, and stroke. With over 150 peer-reviewed publications, many invited lectureships, and a continued passion for education of the next generation of physicians, he had made significant contributions to Neurosurgery and Neurovascular Surgery over the course of his career.
Dr. Gandhi is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and CAST certified in Endovascular Neurosurgery. He is also a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons and hold membership in the Congress of Neurological Surgery, the Society of Neurological Surgeons, and the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery.
