Resident Wellness

At New York Medical College we are committed to Resident Wellness. Our Resident wellness curriculum goals are as follows:

  • Promote a healthy work-life balance.
  • Provide physical, psychological, social and professional wellness education.
  • Maintain a peer support and advocacy network for the residents.

Curriculum:

Our program curriculum incorporates the CREOG Wellness workshops.

Fostering wellness:

Our wellness program incorporates social events aimed at fostering camaraderie and support among faculty and residents. Some examples include:

Additionally, our program is dedicated to ensuring and promoting the physical and mental well-being. Both hospital locations have on site gym access available. Our location also provides the opportunity to coordinate hiking and nature walks.Intern Welcome Barbeque

Identifying and Caring for Burnout

We recognize that burnout can happen at any stage of training. Our program is dedicated to identifying and caring for physician burnout. We aim to provide our residents with management tools that they will be able to use during residency and beyond. 

  • Fostering a culture of a supportive residency environment
  • Structured debriefing after poor outcomes and difficult events
  • Confidential psychiatry and therapy available for individual residents
  • Group therapy available to discuss coping mechanisms during high stress times
  • Biannual meetings with Program Director
