On any given day, there are nearly 1,000 patients at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla NY, receiving the highest level of specialized care. A campaign is currently being conducted to match compassionate, caring volunteers with the wide variety of volunteer opportunities at the Medical Center and our Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. A commitment of 3 hours a week is encouraged (during the day, evenings or weekends), to best meet the needs of the patients and families. The minimum age level is 14.

Volunteer opportunities include:

Navigation - Help families and friends from the main lobby to their destination. 

Librarians - Work in the Family Resource Center to help families gather information they need. 

Gift Shop - Be there for the families to help them with selections. 

Information Managers - Provide books to patients and their family members during their stay in the Emergency Department (ED), Ambulatory Surgery or in the patient's room.

Clerical - Assist with clerical duties, either in the lobby or at the nurses' stations. Emergency Department Liaisons - Work in ED with staff to help patients and families.

Cuddlers - Be there to hold infants, when requested by staff and help family members become comfortable with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Child Life Staff Support - Assist Child Life in activities with patients, such as arts and crafts. Child Life Visitation - Direct one-on-one contact with patients by listening, playing, or reading. Reading Opportunities - Bedtime reading or group activities. Pet Therapy Support - Assist the handlers with their "doggie" visits.
