ADULT INPATIENT PSYCHIATRIC SERVICE

Our adult inpatient service operates 104 beds located in the Behavioral Health Pavilion. Admissions to this service may be made through our psychiatric emergency room or from psychiatric consultation liaison service to the Medicine, Surgery, Rehabilitation, or OB/GYN Inpatient units.

We provide acute care psychiatric inpatient services, consisting of intensive coordinated treatment by a physician-led team of mental health professionals including activity therapists, social workers, rehab and addiction counselors, and 24-hour nursing care. Patients receive comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment in a structured protective environment.  Our goal is to provide early assessment of patient needs and to tailor treatments that help patients effectively manage their illness and return to a normal level of functioning with seamless reintegration into the community.

ADULT MENTAL HEALTH OUTPATIENT SERVICES

The Adult Mental Health Clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic that provides comprehensive assessments and treatment.  Services provided include pharmacotherapy, individual and group therapy, crisis and social work interventions, and case management.

The Walk-in Evaluation unit provides individuals with mental health assessments to determine which treatment best suits their needs. The unit is open weekdays from 8:00 AM to 5 PM.  Individuals requiring service after 5 PM, on weekends or holidays, can seek assistance at the Psychiatric Emergency Room, located in the Hospital’s Main Building, in Room 1A19

CHILD/ADOLESCENT INPATIENT PSYCHIATRIC SERVICE

Our child/adolescent inpatient service operates 18 beds located in the Behavioral Health Pavilion. Admissions to this service may be made through our emergency room or throughout psychiatric consultation service to the Pediatric Inpatient units. Our child/adolescent inpatient program provides individual, group and family therapy as well as skill building activities and educational instruction. Certified special education teachers provide education for youth receiving acute psychiatric hospital care.  We provide acute care psychiatric inpatient services, consisting of intensive coordinated treatment by a physician-led team of mental health professionals including activity therapists, social workers, and 24-hour nursing care.

CHILD/ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH OUTPATIENT SERVICES

The Child/Adolescent Mental Health Clinic provides assessments, evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment to children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 17 years old.  Modalities offered are verbal therapies including individual, groups, family/parent counseling, and play therapy.  Other services include crisis intervention, case management, and medication therapy.

DETOXIFICATION INPATIENT SERVICE

Our Medically Managed Detoxification Unit is a 19 bed inpatient unit that provides medically managed detoxification treatment for adults dependent on opiates, alcohol, benzodiazepines, and amphetamines.  We provide medical management of withdrawal symptoms that may include risk of acute physical or psychiatric co-morbid conditions.  The unit provides comprehensive services which include a complete physical and mental status examination, bio-psychosocial assessment, medical and psychiatric care, individual and group counseling, activity therapy, case management, referral and discharge planning.

MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT FOR OPIOID USE DISORDER

The Methadone Treatment program is one of the oldest methadone clinics in the United States.  The program is licensed by OASAS to provide methadone and Suboxone treatment for adults 18 years and older who are dependent on opiates.  The clinic provides comprehensive services which include complete physical and mental status examination, bio-psychosocial assessment, methadone treatment, toxicology testing, case management, medical care, individual and group counseling, Behavioral Risk Assessment, referral, discharge planning, and wellness skills. All services are provided in the framework of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

ASSERTIVE COMMUNITY TREATMENT (ACT)

The Metropolitan ACT Program has been in operation since May 1995 and was licensed by NY State Office of Mental Health (NYSOMH) in May 2003.  Metropolitan was the first facility operating a program in New York City and the first licensed by NYSOMH.  The ACT Program (2 teams) supports clients with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) by providing intensive outpatient treatment in their community.  The teams use assertive engagement techniques, and consumers are visited in their home or community.  Admission criteria include non-compliance with traditional clinic services.

PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY ROOM

Located on the first floor of the Hospital’s Main Building, the Psychiatric Emergency Room is a component of the Hospital’s Emergency Services which operates 24 hours daily. All individuals receive an assessment, diagnosis and appropriate treatment and referral as applicable. Immediate crisis intervention is provided by our qualified team of mental health professionals. 

CONSULTATION-LIAISON PSYCHIATRIC SERVICE

This service addresses the psychological aspects of medical and surgical illness for inpatients, providing assistance in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric problems such as depression, self-destructive behaviors, violence, chronic pain, treatment refusal, and coping with death and dying.
