Third and Fourth year medical students rotate through Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Metropolitan Hospital Center and are provided with an introduction to the philosophy, scope and principles of rehabilitation medicine.
The course offers the student an understanding of the physiatrist's contribution to medical practice, helps the student to utilize appropriately the resources of the rehabilitation professionals in future practice, and provides the student with specific knowledge about the basic principles of management of a variety of disabilities including stroke, amputations, spinal cord injuries, and sports injuries, among others.
The student is given responsibility for evaluation and treatment of selected patients under direct faculty supervision and guidance. The student also participates in clinics, team meetings, ward rounds, and electrodiagnostic sessions. The student attends regularly scheduled departmental conferences and other selected teaching activities
