About the Chairman

Kathryn E. McGoldrick, MD, DABA, FCAI (Hon) became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at New York Medical College at Westchester Medical Center in August, 2001. Dr. McGoldrick joined New York Medical College from Yale University School of Medicine, where she was Professor of Anesthesiology, Chief of the Section of Ambulatory Anesthesia, and Medical Director of Ambulatory Surgery. Previously she served on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and was an attending anesthesiologist at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston.

Dr. McGoldrick holds a BMS degree from Dartmouth College, a MD degree from Cornell University Medical College, and a MAH degree from Yale University. In 1999 she received a Certificate from the Yale Management Program for Physicians, an intensive course that is a combined effort of the Yale School of Management, the School of Epidemiology and Public Health, and the Yale University School of Medicine. She completed an internship in pediatrics at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, now known as The New York Presbyterian Hospital. Her anesthesiology residency was undertaken at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, and she completed a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School.

Dr. McGoldrick has authored or edited 17 books, more than 85 book chapters, and countless reviews, abstracts, editorials, and journal articles. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Survey of Anesthesiology and is former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Medical Women's Association. Additionally, Dr. McGoldrick is the recipient of numerous national and international honors and awards, including the Silver Medal of the Faculty of Anaesthetists of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the Bertha Van Hoosen Award of the American Medical Women's Association for exceptional leadership and service, and inclusion on the Best Doctors in America list from 1996 through today. A member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society, she recently was named the 2013 recipient of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia’s Distinguished Service Award and was elected an Honorary Fellow of the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland.

Prior to her professional move to New York, Dr. McGoldrick was elected President of the Connecticut State Society of Anesthesiologists from 1998-2000. A member of the International Anesthesia Research Society, the Academy of Anesthesiology, and the Association of University Anesthesiologists, Dr. McGoldrick recently completed a term as President of the Board of Trustees of the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology, one of the four foundations of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the world's pre-eminent library-museum of anesthesiology. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER). FAER is another of the four foundations of the ASA. Recently, Dr. McGoldrick was elected to the Board of The Anesthesia Foundation, yet another of the four foundations of the ASA. In 2005, Dr. McGoldrick completed her term as President of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia, an international organization to promote the safety and science of ambulatory anesthesia care. She is a Past-President of the Academy of Anesthesiology, having served as President in 2010-2011.

Dr. McGoldrick has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally including such countries as Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Crete, Denmark, England, France, India, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Russia, South Africa, Spain, and Turkey. She has served as a volunteer anesthesiologist with Project Hope and spent five weeks in Moshi, Tanzania at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center as a volunteer with the American Society of Anesthesiologists Overseas Teaching Program. A dedicated and energetic educator, Dr. McGoldrick is Program Director of the Anesthesiology Residency here at New York Medical College/Westchester Medical Center and also serves as an Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
