Personal Profile:

Kathryn E. McGoldrick, M.D., F.A.B.A. became professor and chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at New York Medical College and Director of Anesthesiology at Westchester Medical Center in August, 2001. Dr. McGoldrick joined the New York Medical College from Yale University School of Medicine, where she was Professor of Anesthesiology, Chief of the Section of Ambulatory Anesthesia, and Medical Director of Ambulatory Surgery. Previously she served on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and was an attending anesthesiologist at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston.

Dr. McGoldrick holds a B.M.S. degree from Dartmouth College, a M.D. degree from Cornell University Medical College, and a M.A.H. degree from Yale University. In 1999 she received a Certificate from the Yale Management Program for Physicians, an intensive course that is a combined effort of the Yale School of Management, the School of Epidemiology and Public Health, and the Yale University School of Medicine. She completed an internship in pediatrics at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. Her anesthesiology residency was undertaken at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and she completed a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia at Children's Hospital Medical Center and Harvard Medical School.

Dr. McGoldrick has authored or edited 15 books, more than 75 book chapters, and countless reviews, abstracts, editorials, and journal articles. Currently she serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia. She also is the Editor-in-Chief of Survey of Anesthesiology and is former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Medical Women's Association. Additionally, Dr. McGoldrick is the recipient of numerous national and international honors and awards, including the Silver Medal of the Faculty of Anaesthetists of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the Bertha Van Hoosen Award of the American Medical Women's Association for exceptional leadership and service, and inclusion on the Best Doctors in America list from 2000 through 2008. Prior to her professional move to New York, Dr. McGoldrick was elected President of the Connecticut State Society of Anesthesiologists from 1998-2000. A member of the International Anesthesia Research Society, the Academy of Anesthesiology, the Association of University Anesthesiologists, and the Board of Directors of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia, Dr. McGoldrick recently completed a term as President of the Board of Trustees of the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology, one of the four foundations of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the world's pre-eminent library-museum of anesthesiology. She was recently named to the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER). FAER is another of the four foundations of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, whose mission is to advance the art and science of Anesthesiology. In 2005, Dr. McGoldrick completed her term as President of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia, an international organization to promote the safety and science of ambulatory anesthesia care. Dr. McGoldrick has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally including such countries as Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, England, France, India, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Russia, South Africa, Spain and Turkey. She has served as a volunteer anesthesiologist with Project Hope and spent five weeks in Moshi, Tanzania at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center as a volunteer with the American Society of Anesthesiologists Overseas Teaching Program. A dedicated and energetic educator, Dr. McGoldrick is Program Director of the Anesthesiology Residency here at New York Medical College/Westchester Medical Center.
