Professional Interests:

Kathleen has more than 20 years of clinical experience as a pediatric speech-language pathologist in a variety of settings, as a provider of school-based services, home-based services (Early Intervention, CPSE, and private therapy), as well as inpatient and outpatient therapy. From 2004 through 2012 she held a faculty appointment at NYMC as a Clinical Educator, supervising Speech-Language Pathology graduate students in their internal practicum experience. In 2012, she accepted a faculty appointment at NYMC as Assistant Professor of Clinical Speech-Language Pathology, and in 2013 she was appointed Director of Clinical Education for Speech-Language Pathology.

In her current role at NYMC, Kathleen’s teaching responsibilities have included the following courses: Speech-Language Pathology in Schools, Articulation/Phonology (Speech Sound Disorders); Fluency Disorders, and Foundations of Speech, Language and Cognition.

In her role as Director of Clinical Education, Kathleen is responsible for the content of coursework in clinical education for graduate students in Speech-Language Pathology, including the 2-semester internal practicum, and is responsible for establishing and monitoring the 3 required externship experiences for each NYMC S.L.P. graduate student.

Kathleen’s professional interests include early language development, language-based learning disabilities, articulation and phonological disorders, and the effective use of technology in speech-language intervention.

In addition to her professional responsibilities, Kathleen serves as a resource in the community as a merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America for the “Communications” and “Disabilities Awareness” badges, mentoring youth in the areas of effective communication and in advocacy for persons with disabilities.
