The application deadline has been extended to March 1, 2019. Your resume and two letters of recommendation must be submitted via email to star@nymc.edu. College undergraduates must also submit an unofficial transcript; if accepted, an official transcript must be sent prior to the beginning of the program. Former STAR trainees need only submit an application and one letter of recommendation (resume not required). These supporting documents should be received no later than March 1, 2019.

The committee reviews completed applications on a rolling basis. Positions in the STAR Program will be filled as suitable candidates are identified. Admissions notifications will be made via email as soon as your placement is confirmed by the NYMC mentor (after interview), usually no later than April 1st.

Since it must be completed in one sitting, we ask that you review the following questions prior to beginning your application. You will not be able to save an incomplete application and return to finish it at a later time.

  1. Name, address, phone number, email address, date of birth.
  2. Name and address of current school; grade/year and GPA.
  3. Name, email and phone number of recommenders.
  4. What are your career goals? What are your research interests? Briefly describe any previous research lab experience.
  5. Have you previously applied to the STAR Program? Outcome?
  6. Have you already made arrangements with an NYMC faculty member to serve as your mentor for summer 2019? If so, who?
  7. If you have not made arrangements with an NYMC faculty member, list 3 NYMC faculty members whose research interests you.

A successful candidate for admission should have an inquiring mind, be focused, dedicated, persistent and have a willingness to think “outside the box”.

Cost: $150 registration fee, collected after acceptance to the program
