Institute For Trauma Emergency Care (ITEC)

  • Founded: 1981
  • Purpose: To promote research, education, outreach, injury prevention, and improvement of patient care, in both pre-hospital and hospital settings, in the areas of trauma, emergency care, disaster preparedness, and care of the critically injured patient.
  • Objectives: To research epidemiology, prevention, clinical, and basic science related to trauma, emergency, medicine, and critical care; and to provide Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses to residents and interested physicians.
  • Current research: Include creation of trauma and patient database repository containing refined data for research studies, and research by NYMC medical students in trauma, EMS, critical care, and injury prevention.
