SHSP Hosts Fourth Annual Research and Scholarship Day

Posters overflowed the Medical Education Center lobby at the School of Health Sciences and Practice Fourth Annual Research and Scholarship Day on May 3. Co-chairs of the event Luis F. Riquelme, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, BCS-S, associate professor of clinical speech-language pathology, and Susan L. Ronan, P.T., D.P.T., assistant professor of clinical physical therapy, were pleased to accept 39 posters for presentation. “It was truly a day to celebrate and highlight projects geared towards the health sciences and public health,” said Dr. Riquelme. “We are quite proud of the quality and quantity of the research projects presented.” View the SHSP Research and Scholarship Day photo gallery here.

Abstracts were accepted in the categories of discovery, work adding to the development or creation of new knowledge; integration; work adding to the critical analysis and review of knowledge; application/practice, work that distributes developed knowledge to solve real problems in professions, industries, government, the community, and other social realms; teaching, work adding to the development of critically reflective knowledge about teaching and learning; and engagement, work adding to the identification, understanding, and resolution of significant social, civic, or ethical problems.

SHSP faculty who served as judges had their work cut out for them to select the winning projects out of the field. The judges were: Chia-Ching Chen, M.A., M.S., Ed.D., CHES, associate professor of epidemiology and community health; Barbara Leader, M.A., CCC-SLP, assistant professor of speech-language pathology; Kenneth A. Knapp, Ph.D., assistant professor of health policy and management; Barbara Greenberg , Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health; Maureen Kennedy, Dr.P.H., assistant professor of epidemiology and community health; Qiuhu Shi, Ph.D., professor of biostatistics; David Moskowitz, Ph.D., associate professor of epidemiology and community health; Kristina Welsome, P.T., D.P.T., assistant professor of clinical physical therapy; Kathleen Franklin, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, associate professor and chair of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology; Michael Majsak, P.T., Ed.D., associate professor and chairman of the Department of Physical Therapy; and Hong-Duck Kim, Ph.D., associate professor of environmental health science. MarieAnge Brunnemann, administrative assistant in the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health, coordinated the event.
