Class of 2020 Commencement Set for May 19
The Class of 2020 will take center stage on May 19 at the Westchester County Center, in White Plains, New York.
The 2:00 p.m. ceremony will feature all the pomp and circumstance fitting for the 161st commencement exercises of New York Medical College (NYMC) and the inaugural commencement of the Touro College of Dental Medicine at NYMC. Commencement speaker R. Bruce Donoff, D.M.D., M.D., the Walter C. Guralnick Distinguished Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor and former dean of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), will address the Class of 2020. Dr. Donoff served as dean of HSDM from 1991 to January 2020. He has made major contributions to research in oral and maxillofacial surgery with interests in wound healing, bone graft survival, sensory nerve repair and oral cancer. He has published more than 100 papers and textbooks and was instrumental in launching the HSDM Integrating Oral Health and Medicine initiative.
He served on the board of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation and served as president of the Friends of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. He is the editor of the Massachusetts General Hospital Manual of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Massachusetts Dental Society Journal.
Dr. Donoff’s stellar career has been recognized with many honors including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Research Recognition Award, the William J. Gies Foundation Award for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Alpha Omega Achievement Award and the Distinguished Alumni and Faculty Awards from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. In 2014 he was a Shils-Meskin awardee for leadership in the dental profession.
He received his D.M.D. from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School.
