This year NYMC promoted the campaigns: Take 5, to encourage students and faculty to add five minutes to the time spent with patients, to learn more about them personally and to improve their care; Thank You Hearts were given to patients to thank them for allowing our students to be a learning member of their care team; Star Students for students to nominate classmates who have portrayed compassionate care to patients or to colleagues and be recognized; and Strive to Be, to encourage students to think of what kind of health provider they strive to be in their current and future practice. Justin Cole, SOM Class of 2019 and vice president of the Student Senate, remarked, "I strive to understand the patients' perspective because everyone brings a different story and set of experiences to the table and patients tend to see their disease through the lens of their experiences."
