NYMC Hosts Active Shooter Response Training

On January 31, the NYMC Office of Security offered another line of defense in keeping the NYMC community safe-an active shooter response training. The training, open to all students, faculty and staff, was presented by Police Officer
Christopher Mazzey, left, of the New York City Police Department Counterterrorism Division. The training is an initiative of the NYPD SHIELD program, a public/private partnership that supports information sharing and police initiatives that pertain to private sector security and counterterrorism.
The program covered procedures, systems and training for an active shooter situation and emphasized situational awareness. Participants were encouraged to practice the ABCs if confronted with such a situation: Avoid or evacuate from the area; Barricade or hide from the shooter; Confront or take action against the shooter as a last resort.

"This was an outstanding training opportunity for attendees to gain insight and information needed to take personal responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others if they were to find themselves in an active shooter situation in any setting," said William Allison, director of security.
