New York Medical College (NYMC) and the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) today announced a long-term, Academic Affiliation Agreement (AAA) that will serve to strengthen the academic medicine programs as well as the clinical care and research practices of both NYMC and WMCHealth.

Valhalla, N.Y., May 17, 2017 – New York Medical College (NYMC) and the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) today announced a long-term, Academic Affiliation Agreement (AAA) that will serve to strengthen the academic medicine programs as well as the clinical care and research practices of both NYMC and WMCHealth.

Under the agreement, hospitals on the Valhalla campus of WMCHealth – its flagship Westchester Medical Center, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and Behavioral Health Center - will be the primary teaching sites for the clinical education of students of NYMC and Touro College affiliated programs. Additionally, NYMC will facilitate the expansion of that education to other hospitals in the WMCHealth Network and NYMC and WMCHealth will collaborate to foster clinical research.

"After negotiations between the leadership of WMCHealth and NYMC, and upon the approvals of the Boards of both organizations, the parties have signed a long-term AAA. This renews our commitment to a continued partnership with WMCHealth and its affiliated hospitals as our primary academic sites," said NYMC's Chancellor and CEO Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A. "On any given day more than one-fourth of NYMC's third- and fourth-year medical students complete their clinical clerkships at WMCHealth hospitals, along with students in other clinical disciplines. With a shared faculty and jointly conducted research and educational activities, there is a great deal of partnership between our two organizations. This agreement codifies our already long-standing relationship. Contrary to prior, short-term agreements, this arrangement will allow for a continuous and synergistic relationship between both organizations.”

”WMCHealth hospitals have a history of academic cooperation with New York Medical College, and we’re happy this agreement will keep this relationship strong for more than a decade,” said Michael D. Israel, President and CEO, Westchester Medical Center Health Network.  “Developing the advanced care specialists of tomorrow is part of our mission and in collaboration with New York Medical College, we are a lead center on many clinical trials from which results will impact generations to come. We embrace this opportunity to impact healthcare regionally and globally.”
